Port Facility Security Team Lead
Position Summary
The Port Facility Security Team Lead (PFSTL) is responsible for overseeing the security operations at the port or other related facility, leading a team of security personnel to ensure a safe and secure environment for all port activities. This role involves supervising daily security tasks, monitoring compliance with maritime security regulations, and coordinating responses to security incidents or emergencies.
Reporting Line
The Port Facility Security Team Lead reports to the Security Manager/Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO).
Responsible For
Security Officers and Security Supervisor reports to the Port Facility Security Team Lead.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and coordinate the activities of the port security team, ensuring that all personnel are properly trained, equipped, and performing their duties in accordance with security protocols.
- Oversee daily security operations, including access control, surveillance, patrolling, and screening of personnel, vehicles, and cargo.
- Ensure compliance with relevant maritime security regulations, including the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code, local laws, and company policies.
- Lead the response to security incidents, emergencies, or threats, including potential breaches of security, theft, sabotage, or unauthorized access. Coordinate with law enforcement and emergency services when necessary.
- Support the conduct of regular security assessments and recommend improvements to mitigate threats and vulnerabilities.
- Implement and enforce security procedures to safeguard assets including people, infrastructure, equipment, and physical and electronic data.
- Perform or oversee regular security inspections of port facilities, vessels, and cargo, ensuring compliance with security plans and regulations.
- Provide ongoing training and development to security team members, ensuring they are up to date on the latest security practices, technologies, and regulatory requirements.
- Maintain accurate records of security activities, incidents, and reports for management, regulatory bodies, and audits.
- Act as the primary point of contact for port security matters, liaising with port management, external security agencies, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to coordinate security efforts.
- Other duties as assigned relating to the job role.
Qualifications, Experience & Skills
- High school diploma or equivalent required; professional certification, diploma or degree in a related field is a plus.
- At least three (3) years’ experience in security operations, preferably in a port, maritime, or logistics environment.
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience in a private security setting, military, police or prison services.
- Strong knowledge of maritime security regulations (e.g., ISPS Code).
- Ability to assess security risks and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to manage and motivate a team.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check (includes but not limited to academic qualifications, drug and alcohol use, criminal records, prior employment, etc.)
